A resident who paid six months upfront can later pay for only one extra month. You do not need to recreate the original six-month agreement or change its old receipt.
1

Open the correct agreement

In Tenants & Leases, find the resident and choose Extend Lease on the lease row. Check the displayed current end date.
2

Choose the added time

Enter Extra Months, usually 1, or enter a Custom New End Date for an exact agreement. A custom end date takes precedence over the month count.
3

Agree on the extension rent

Review Rent for the Extension. The suggested amount can be changed. Enter the exact total rent for only the extra period.
4

Choose how to save

Choose Save Extension to create an unpaid extension bill for later collection, or Extend & Collect Payment to open the payment form immediately.
5

Confirm the payment

If collecting now, the payment form opens with the tenant, extension amount and extension bill selected. Confirm the method, reference and allocation, then choose Save Payment & Generate Receipt.

Worked example

After saving, the lease end becomes 12 May 2027. The original bill and receipt remain unchanged. The extension has a separate bill that becomes PAID only after its payment is recorded.

Check the result

  1. Refresh the lease list and confirm the new end date.
  2. Open the ledger and check the extension’s date range and amount.
  3. Confirm the receipt and allocation if you collected money.
Saving an extension does not collect money. If you close the payment form, the extension remains saved and its bill remains unpaid.
An expired agreement can be extended only if it still holds the unit. A terminated lease or a unit assigned elsewhere requires a new valid lease rather than an extension of the former agreement.
